For 31 years inside BellSouth and AT&T – rising from repair clerk to Operations Director – Dr. Miles lived every stage of the career advancement challenge from the inside. He became the first Black Operations Director of BellSouth Interconnections’ only regional call center. He learned the unwritten rules. He cracked the system. And then he built a roadmap so no one who came after him would have to figure it out alone.

I had no sponsor, and wasn’t invited to be a part of any high potential (HiPo) management programs. Even as I gained experience, and began to get great results – promotional opportunities were not presented to me.

I remember watching people with less experience, fewer results, and lower performance reviews get promoted ahead of me. I didn’t lack talent. I lacked a system.

After I became the first Black Operations Director, I went back to school. I earned my doctorate. I directed the International Executive MBA Program at Kennesaw State University — where I became, again, the first Black Director. Each time, I arrived somewhere new with the same realization: the path exists. It’s just not written down.

So I wrote it down. And the MCP Career Strategy System™ was born.
